Building on the warm welcome they received at Capitol University last July 2, 2026, the
two exchange students, Sarah Aulia and Khalila Nayla Izzaty from Universitas Negeri
Jakarta (UNJ), Indonesia, under the SEA Teachers Program, have embarked on a
memorable journey of discovery across Northern Bukidnon, blending their academic
mission with rich cultural and scenic experiences.
The group traveled to Bukidnon province, passing through expansive pineapple
plantations that form a major part of the region’s agricultural landscape. The visit
included a stop at Dahilayan Forest Park in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, where the
students explored the park grounds and posed for photos at the official landmark sign.
The students were joined on the entire trip by local student companions and host faculty
members: Dr. Andrews Maquiling, Dean of the College of Education, and Dr. Janet
Parpa, Chair of the College of Education Elementary Department. The journey
combined sightseeing of the province’s natural landscapes with time spent interacting
with local peers outside of academic activities.
Beyond the fun and sightseeing, these outings hold deep meaning for the SEA
Teachers Program. As future educators, the students are not only learning local
teaching practices at Capitol University’s College of Education and Basic Education
Department, they are also gaining firsthand understanding of Filipino values, traditions,
and the region’s rich natural heritage. Such experiences will shape how they bring
cross-cultural perspectives into their own classrooms when they return to Indonesia.
As they continue their stay in Cagayan de Oro, the UNJ exchange students look forward
to more immersive experiences, more stories to share, and more bridges built between
Indonesia and the Philippines through education and friendship.
