The marine transportation instructors of Capitol University – College of Maritime Education completed the two (2) days Virtual Instructor’s Training on the Familiarization, Operational Use, and Development of Exercise on POSEIDON Pharos Global Maritime Distress Safety System (GMDSS) simulator on May 18-19, 2021. The virtual training was conducted by R/O Marcelino C. Abante, training instructor of POSEIDON Asia Inc.
The said training is part of the STCW 2010 Manila amendments compliant simulator suitable tool for GMDSS training according to IMO model courses 1.25 (GOC) and 1.26 (ROC). The training also is part of the faculty development for all BSMT instructors handling professional courses.
Although the training was done virtually by the training instructor using Google Meet, the majority of CU-CME instructors went to the CME’s GMDSS Simulation Center to manually perform the workshop scenarios using the equipment. The said training will also equip the marine transportation instructors who will be handling MARCOM 001 and other related courses in the opening of the AY 2020-2021.
All instructors observed the IATF minimum health standard like wearing of face mask, face shield, and social distancing.
